ISA will be preparing a holiday season attraction which is a large Christmas holiday display built in China as a knock-down-kit for assembly in America. The Construction Supervisor will work remotely, under the mentorship of one of ISA's experienced Associate Producers to coordinate, manage and fulfill the needs of this project.
Exhibition Display Construction Supervisor – This person is hands on and will have the overall responsibility to coordinate and administer the entire project on a local basis. The successful candidate will have a background that demonstrates both exceptional mechanical aptitudes plus respected people skills. The job involves the coordination of an assembly of vendors providing elements including electrical power distribution, exhibit display assembly, theatrical lighting, carpentry and materials handling. Knowledge of local electrical codes and standards is required.
This person will directly interface with ISA’s client (a major resort and convention center), a team of skilled artisans from China (and their translators) as well as the numerous 3rd party vendors to the project. Therefore, the ability to function in a diverse cultural environment is a must. One moment they may be addressing a corporate client, the next a construction vendor, and then immediately need to address a cross-cultural issue with the Chinese artisans. At times challenging, but always rewarding.
Previous experience in areas such as electrical power handling and installation, carpentry and stagecraft skills for theatrical production, stage management, special event planning and presentation, theater technology, live performance and other event presentation is preferred.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has worked in the craft shops in the theater, television, film or special events industry, amusement park industry, state fairs, festivals and expositions, or have worked doing convention and trade show and is looking to move up to the next level of duties and responsibilities in a more supervisory/managerial role should consider submitting their resume.
A high sense of work ethic is a must. An attitude of 'whatever it takes to get the job done' is required. As we are in the entertainment industry, at times work days will be very long, and for the period from November 8th through November 21st there will be no days off.
This job is seasonal, with on-site work initiating on November 8th through November 21st and required part-time maintenance through strike in early January of 2010. You will be required to review pre-production materials and participate in meetings as we prepare for the event via phone or electronic outlets prior to working on site. This is our initial year with this production on a multi-year contract with our client. Your excellent performance this year will assure you of candidacy for employment again in the fall (October-January) of 2010.
Furthermore, the successful candidates will have an opportunity to join the list of ISA independent contractors and part-time employees who are engaged by this company on a project- by-project basis. This job in Louisville, Kentucky, has an opportunity for future growth and responsibility. Persons in the past who have started at this level with ISA have over the years been elevated to full time Technical Directors, Project Managers and Associate Producers of our international shows and events. In effect, we are looking for someone who is available now for a short-term project, but future opportunities do exist. Our firm produces shows and presents attractions world-wide, so having a passport is always a good thing to have in your pocket when you work for ISA.
