This is a World War I poster, dated 1910-1920. It was a recruitment poster for the military. 350,000 black men trained and deployed in segregated units and 42,000 of them saw action in Europe. Peter Sisters wrote an ideological poem, "The Slacker: So when the victory is won/ And the world is at peace/ When the shedding of blood is done/ And mankind is free/ Uncle Sam, if giving up life/ For the deliverance of men/ Does not give all, equal rights/ Who will be the slacker then?" This poster appers to be an original. It is NOT a reproduction from recent years. The paper is old. The paper poster was placed in an old frame with nails and cardboard. The edges of the poster were altered by about 1-2 inches to accommodate the past owners frame. The picture has some minor flaws, as would be expected. The price is below market value because I am downsizing and need to pass my treasure on to others who would value it for the unique antique it is. the flaws shown in this picture are from my ceiling fan--sorry. You are welcome to come and look at the poster. We can meet in a public place.
