Two of these Derby winners from this 10 year period are the best of all time! Secretariat and Spectacular Bid. The other two
Triple Crown winners were also very nice horses, Seatle Slew and Affirmed.
Secretariat broke the track record in all three Triple Crown races.( still unbroken)
Spectacular Bid won 26 of 30 races at 16 different tracks and broke the track record at different distances in seven of those races.
It is widely believed that had he not stepped on a safety pin the morning of the Belmont stakes he would have been the fourth Triple Crown winner during this decade.
He has also run the fastest time ever at 1 1/4 miles 1min 57 4/5sec (1980 Strub Stakes) There's some trivia for ya! Most people would pick Secetariat.
