Though there is an abundance of Big Top Peanut Butter collectibles around today, their unique jars and Sing-a-Song glasses just as, if not more collectible during the time they first circulated as they are today. Big Top *peanuts* however...until I "rediscovered" this time I had either forgotten or had paid little attention to the fact they ever distributed regular old salted, roasted peanuts...though obviously it makes sense they might have.
I'm told by someone who was around then and believes, but is not sure, that the peanuts came before the far more famous Big Top Peanut Butter...which makes sense and rings true, and might put the vintage for this item closer to 1946.
I will try to refrain from turning this classified into an long-winded article...hehehe...but today the Big Top Peanut Butter empire that William T. Young sold to Proctor & Gamble in 1955 went on to become the biggest peanut butter empire in the world...today it is known as Jif =) And Jif's peanut butter plant in Lexington has long been in the Guiness World Records for being the largest peanut butter plant in the world. The story of William T. Young and his Big Top peanut butter empire is an interesting one for those who enjoy Kentucky historical anecdotes, but I will let those so interested dive into that on their own =)
As shown in the pictures, there is some rust on this can.
